Vanity Pole Privacy Film Petition

Please sign our petition against the removal of privacy film from the Vanity Pole Fitness Gym windows

Vanity Pole Fitness Gym Facade

The opaque nature of the film provides privacy for members of the gym who are training to learn Pole Fitness, without this film members would be subject to view by any person walking or driving past the gym, this would simply deter most members from even starting lessons as among other things, pole fitness is a confidence builder.

This petition will be presented to Newport City Council board of Appeal, please only sign this petition if you wish for the privacy film to remain in place. None of the information provided will be used for any purposee other than the petition. If you do not have an email address you can enter "none" instead.

Privacy Glass Petition Signatures

i think that the misty glass is for the girls to get their confidence and if it was removed u would have every one lookin through the windows. i dont think women wouldnt have the confidence to do the pole dancin infront of a group of gorpers, the shop window is fab in my eyes its not doin anyone any harm it can only do good it isnt some sex shop its a place women go to get fit and have fun would some one ask a gym to uncover the windows if they were to use misty glass NO i dont think so, bein a big lady myself i dont think i could go to a place where people can see me from the streets.
Paige-Louise
i think that with clear glass people would feel like they are on show and wouldnt want to go back to vanity pole, its not like it is making the street look bad, it already looks awful with all the dark colours and run down shops. If anything these windows are the best ones on the street.

ive always wanted 2 learn 2 pole dance i know sum moves but want 2 learn more i'd like 2 take part its fun, fit, and amazing
M Gammon
I think that the privacy film needs to stay in place, as without it people will not attend the lessons.
caitlin evans
i believe that the privacy window is good cause if people arent very confident they dont have every one starring at them.
Stephanie Richards
The establishment will lose a lot of money if the windows are not in place, as women will feel like they are being exhibitionist!! The windows are there to protect the people inside, and also protects people on the outside such as children, and older people who are not as open-minded about pole dancing. Think of the complaints if the windows are taken! Privacy glass increases the confidence of every woman, and if it wasnt there, you might as well work out on the lamp posts on the street.
kerry
Let the women have the privacy to gain confidence
Victoria conroy
If there not prepared to let people have privacy maybe they should provide you with a gym or hall to do it in
Becca Kane
Please give women the ability to gain confidence in themselves. We don't need to be an exhibition, if we wanted to be, we'd move to Amsterdam....
Erica Strum
I am trying to get some information on your classes, cost, and schedules.
Melanie Vincent
Am definately going to look into joining these classes but only if the film on the windows stays put. Women learning to pole dance wouldnt have a clue of the sorts of people (mainly men)watching them. Why should someones business and an activity that women enjoy learning be at stake just because someone has decided that they dont like the way the outside looks. Completely shallow

could also possibly cause accidents in clarence place due to drivers trying to look in .keep the film up privacy is one of the things we all want to stop the authorities taking away from us.fight them all the way.

I think if new starters are given a sensitive, enclosed, and private environment it would be a lot better for their training.

I think it would be ridiculous to remove the privacy film, I'm thinking of starting the classes when my health is back to normal but there is no way I would go if I new people could see me!

provacy is everything!!!!

Do not remove the glass there will be all sorts of pervs watching then
Helen Jones
Keep the glass , it keeps the pervs away.
Stephanie
This would make me less likely to join, because I would be too scared of people watching while passing by! Especcially at night! Not a confidence boost at all!

I think that the removal of the film would be detrimental to anyones self confidence.... I could not imagine being watched, critisised and laughed at while trying to better myself through this type of fitness.... I think that anyone who can master this sort of art should have the CHOICE to either keep their dancing private or to let the public see... From people I have spoken to they do it for their own pleasure NO-ONE elses... KEEP THE WINDOWS PRIVATE.... x
sally dibble
The privacy glass is there to keep us safe and I wouldnt be brave enough to keep going there without the windows blocked out. Sal xx
Ruth
It needs to stay up so that it stays SAFE for those who want to learn to dance without people staring/laughing at them!
Katie Bullock
was thinking of starting classes but if the privacy film was removed, there's no way i would start.starting a Pole Fitness class for the people in the street walking past is NOT a confidence booster!!!

Hang on a minute!! I'm pretty certain councils in other areas made other pole dancing gyms HAVE privacy film not only to give members their privacy but to spare the blushes of passers by who may not want to see people working out on the poles and to avoid any strange beings who want to gather and watch. Why should Newport be any different? This is very petty of the local council.

I think it's such a petty issue for the council to raise. I was looking into taking up classes but would be deterred if the classes could be watched from the street outside.
stacey
dont tell me young men want it removed to spy on the women how sad some women want privacy and dont want people watching them dance exercise
Laura Jenkins
I actually want to book a class for my friend's hen night as she lives locally but she is not the most confident of girls and refuses to come with me because she has heard about the plans to remove the privacy film from the windows and who can blame her really?

Nicola Hickmans
Keep the windows as they are to keep our privacy!!
Samantha Habel
Pole dancing is a private art form that most people pay money to see, so don't let covetous opportunists get a free show! We should to be able to work out without people staring at us. It's bad enough in a normal gym!
kelly jones
I feel that the privacy film should stay as I intend to start classes very shortly but would be deterred to join if I knew I could be watched clearly by utter strangers. It can be damaging to a persons self confidence amongst other things. I personally would feel violated at the thought of someone getting a free showing at the expense of the girls trying to learn a new form of fitness. Not much is done around Newport to encourage people to take up fitness classes and i feel that to remove the film would only be damaging to those who actually make an effort.
nicola.davies76@hotmail.co.uk
i think its disgusting that they are even thinking of removing the privicy glass. Can you imagine the amount of accidents that would take place due to drivers being distracted.
Ann-Marie Tait
I believe it is unfair to the clients to remove the privacy glass from the premises so that anyone passing can see in.
denise olander
I agree
charlotte m
the frost glas is there to give the girls privcy. It would be totally unfair to make them remove it x
EMMA RUSSELL
Keep the privacy glass!!!!!
Kevina Newman
To remove the film from these premises windows would be absolutely crazy, for a start the business would fail due to customers being too embarassed to excercise so the knock on effect doesn't bear thinking about, the film provides privacy for the girls and I for one would not feel comfortable with the public being able to view me (especially me falling on my bum) Keep the privacy film in place.
Tschenavia Patterson
Keep the film!!!!!
Amie White
It shouldnt be aloud to be taken away it will be a violation against women havin classes as men will be able to drool over women trying to feel feminine having there own life and learn new skills
Debbie Middleton
I think that removing the flim would make people think twice about taking up pole fitness. I started pole fitness last year & i feel that should the flims be removed from the window then i shall have to give up something i like & something that i enjoy doing when i have may day's off.
Becky Jones
How can you expect Vanity Pole to remove the film? its for privacy!
lisa davies
none
Katie
Keep the glass!!
Lauren Clark
KEEP THE GLASS!! If people want to see girls pole dancing then go to a strip club!! These girls just want to get fit! Not entertain the peeping toms!!
Kylie coughlan
Whoever thinks that removing the film will benefit the members confidence needs to get their head checked. Its not exactly unsitely and there are many worse things in Newport the council should be focusing on!
karen
Go and sort out the rest of newport instead of wasting time on something so petty
John lamprey
The council who run this town are under the illusion that retail outlets are forming a big queue to rent or lease shops in clarence place ! thats what they dream about ! this girl should have the support of the council who are loosing buisinesses in newports town centre at an alarming rate ! they should be helping an encouraging new ventures not trying to shut them down ! i wish you the best of luck charlene .
Abi Harrison
If there were no privacy glass I would not want to take part in the classes at the Newport venue. Privacy is essential for these classes, no one wants to be watched by passers by from the pavement! It would be the same for any kind of fitness class, not just Pole.
Grace Chalk
do not remove the frosted glass.
Alexandra Griffiths
I am currently looking into joining these classes, It is a great fun way to keep fit and healthy. I can assure you that without the screens in the window I would not be interested As in any exercise, gym etc Privacy is an important thing for all females! I feel it is great that they are there DO NOT REMOVE THEM
Lauren
Violates dancers privacy. Who wants Tom Dick and Harry watching you dance. I surely wouldnt! How would newport city council like it if we spied on them at their most 'private' of times. Pole dancing is about confidence building.. Now the new 'eastenders'
Hannah Courtney
Definetely keep it up, keeping the film up will give people a lot more confidence. A lot of people are not comfortable with their body and removing it will only make it worse.
Kirsty Middleton
I think it's terrible. You can bet your bottom dollar that if this were a mens club then this issue wouldn't have even been raised...
Jodie
keep privacy film up
Emja
Keep it :) xx
Emma
People deserve privacy!...especially on such a busy road!
VAL
best to be kept private
declan
you should keep the opaque film for privacy if it wernt there no body would train due to embarresment so vanitypoledance has my vote to keep the opaque windows
Drew Brian
Leave the privacy glass up!
paula cox
please keep the film in place...i am not a member but i was browsing the site due to wanting to take it up. however if the film was to be removed i would not join as i am nervous enough about doing it in front of other girls.
Samantha Ball
the film should be kept so members dont feel uncomfortable by passers by staring in!
Natalie Morgan
Don't shut it dwn!!! Heard good comment's about this place, alot of people have said they enjoy it there! x
Rebecca Miah
Privacy is important and the look of the road is not compromised by this film. However if they insist on removal advertising boards inside the building can't be stopped can they, its private property after all!
Kaye
I'd like to join these classes, i'd hate to be watched. Keep up the Privacy Glass
amy
the privacy glass should be kept up.
Leanne Shrot
I would be detered from joining if the frosted glass was removed.
sian elliott
Dont do it - why should perverts get to stare!!
cheryl brunnock
only perverts want clear windows
daniel cameron
My god what is this place coming to how would this window offend anyone o wait, i know someone who has nothing better to do with there time. I have seen Moore detailed picture on sky TV kids Chanel. And the person in the counsel must be after a pay rise or something to pursue this. Can the council not spend more time and as much effort on helping the homeless or something. I no what it is its some old bird behind a desk who thinks you must all be getting your tits and fanny's out. maybe she should join As for taking it down sod it take it all the way where in the book dose it say this is offencive. What about the big billboards in town with the half naked girl on it i don't seen them dong anything about this. I think some people need to get a grip
joanne hughes
if the privacy film has to be taken down i will no longer be atteneding my classes i dont think they cause offence to any one and they are there to protect our privacy i really enjoy the class and its a great way to keep fit
Samantha
the privacy film should be kept up
Alex Jones
looks a damn site better with the film than most of the empty buildings alongside it
Rob

A typical example of faceless bureaucrats picking and choosing what suits, when it suits. A previously vacant unit has been brought back into use, providing employment opportunities against a bleak economic backdrop, along with a service that improves the health of those participating. The police have never been called to the unit - unlike the numerous late night kebab houses in the area, and if Newport City Council really cared about the appearance of the area why have they allowed the former college on the corner to stand empty and decay for what, 15 years or more? Why not close the halfway house a few doors along that belches out crackheads and alcohlics who soil the street throughout the day.... i guess that would infringe on their human rights, huh? Why not allow people to make a good, honest living? A novel idea maybe, but not to much to ask, surely?
melanie
i think its pathetic that this is even an issue, the glass looks good, it is just the same as having curtains or blinds up!!
craig sheppard
everyone is entitled to have their privacy, what harm is it doing to anything!!!!!
Ranni
Keep the forsted glass!!!!! It would not be the same without it!!
Ranni
Keep the forsted glass!!!!! It would not be the smae without it!!
Serann Gettings
I think it is unbelievable that Newport City Council has taken action against this fitness gym. I personally have been to Vanity Pole on many occations and i feel very stongly that the frosted glass is needed for the privacy of the customers. I do not see why there is a problem as i have passed many shops within Newport and Cwmbran who have frosted glass, for example, Solicitors, Barbers/Hairdressers and Insurance companies to name but a few. When you are in business you have to listen to your customers - i would say that 99% of Vanity Pole customers would not feel comfortable taking these classes without frosted glass. WHAT IS NEWPORT CITY COUNCIL'S PROBLEM!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK CHARLEEN AND GARETH
shardae allcock
i am going to join and would not feel comfitable without the frosting on the windows
Miriam Stevens
Lets put the councilors in the window without the frosting and advertise it in the Argus and lets see how they like to be leered at while exercising. I thought we were trying to get the country fit? With councilors like these what chance do we have?
Lorna Alaball
Leave it alone! There is nothing wrong with the window. Would the councilors themselves like to be oggled at while doing exercises? Haven't they got anything better to do? Like clean up the whole area in general.
chantelle marchant
I think it is pathetic that newport city council have a cheek to tell you to take the frosted glass away because the women that go in there would like privacy from adults and children. i think its wrong x
Jemma-anne Herbert
I feel that the opaque film in the windows is not offensive to the public or degrading to the area that the gym is situated in. It is essential to keep the film on the windows to respect the privacy of the gyms members,as without it the lessons that take place there would be on full view to the public. People would be less likely to attend the lessons without the film but if the lessons did continue I feel that this would effectively be putting them on display to the public.
Kayleigh Sullivan
The privacy film should stay. The council should support local businesses during such hard times!
paul
Just another example of the narrow minded newport city council.
claire
Your shop front is the tidiest in that area and i don't see anything wrong with tne opaque window. I used to have a small shop in Newport and had hassle from the council about window shutters that we used to put over our windows at night because we had them broken in the first week of trading. Good luck with your petition.
clairelou13@hotmail.co.uk
how are members meant to have privacy ?

The Council should be ashamed of themselves! x

give privacy dont have time for haters what is the point, its your business the frosting is jus Like having curtains or bLinds up. Good Luck i hope the frosting do not have to be removed, aLL the best ;)
lisa
100% support on this petition,we can all clearly imagine what would happen if the film came down,it would attract droves of undesirables and i think we have enough of those dont you?????? start concentrating on the real problems of newport and let women feel safe and comfortable whilst trying to keep fit!
Alan Pitt
Yet again the Council trying to put down someone trying to make a difference to the appearance of an area that needs some work. No complaints about a shop further down that has blanked out windows.Good luck with your campaign
Kelly Howells
The privacy film should be kept on the windows. Are Newport City Council stupid or what?!! It seems that Vanity Pole is one of the few thriving businesses left in Newport. Maybe the council should get there act together and concentrate on doing something with all the old, empty, derelict buildings that have give Newport a bad reputation instead of focusing all there attention on something as minor as frosted glass on the windows of a wonderful business.
T Stanger
Once again another example of the close minded council we have in place. They've done this sort of thing to many other businesses they see as "unsavoury" and they'll keep on doing it until they actually see what the business is about. The ladies in the gym have their right to privacy, many gyms have no windows at all, or on higher levels, and lets face it, Clarence place isn't exactly the most glam part of town anyway, so can't really see what the problem is!
s waters
amother example of our council failing to support an enter[prising individual
lynda
Let them keep the windows as they are, council officials get a life.
a patel
I think this is a very sad state of affairs! In this day and age people want to keep fit by methods other than going to the gym! Don't see how this distracts from the streets appearance. There are many protected buildings in Newport....most of them are allowed to remain delelict!
Paul Joy
I think its a bit petty of Newport council to want the privacy of the women inside to be compromised by removing the frosted film. All they seem interested in is getting everything ready for the Ryder Cup and the "visit" of the Americans. What about the people who live and work there all the time.......POWER TO THE POLE!!!
Karen Edwards
What is going on, Clarence Place is so run down it makes a refreshing change to see a shop actually being used, who cares if there is frosted glass, it looks clean and tidy.....the world is going mad! or rather Newport City Council are!
M.Johnston
Give the girl a break she's trying 2 make a success of herself. Bet they ain't saying the same about the Golden tandoori's restaurant's windows.
Claire Lloyd
Please do not remove the privacy film.
gemma
everyone deserves there privacy good luck with the petition
mariannedraper
what harm is the glass doing anyone it doesnt look odd in the area in fact the area is downtrodden now and the vanity pole brightens the area up a bit.
James
privacy glass is obviously there for a reason, women should be allowed to work out with confidence. i support this petition!
Frances Jackson
Although i'm not a member, i read your article in the South Wales Argus and i can understand the way you and your members feel, i wouldn't want to be subject to every Tom, Dick and Harry ogling me as they walk or drive past we are not sex objects, why don't the council bigwigs get off their backsides for once, get their leotards on and give it a try and see how intimidated they would feel with everyone ogling them, the council needs to get their act together and do something usefull for the community for once rather than put the people down who's trying to make a living by starting up this fitness centre and helping the local community get fit. I wish you guys all the best for the future.
Clint Perry
The request to remove the privacy film from the windows of your business is the most absurd thing i have heard of for a long time. The film is there so that the ladies inside gain confidence within themselves, and feel safe and at ease at all times. I wish you luck with the petition and hope your business goes from strength to strength.
Kelly Neat
I am hoping to start pole dancing classes soon as i have always wanted to try it but never really had the confidence. Removing the film would only deter people who feel the same way as i do!
elizabeth jenkins

I think removing the frosted glass, is an indecent request. I think that it will drop all of the attendants confidence and trust in vanity pole, it will definatley reduce business. I travel back forth to nash college three times a week and personaly i do not want to feel like I am invadeing others privacy, Good luck with the petition and I hope that you are succesful. x
Mark Judkins
You've got my support from Utah, United States. Good luck!
Emma Watkins
i heard about this last week, and just read your story in the argus.what an absolute joke if the council were that concerned about protecting the building then they should sort out that disgusting eyesore of a stench pit that is known as t.j`s and what about all the scumbags that live in the hostel above??? many of which i have seen urinating in the doorways of all the shops yours included. Girl you should be congratulated for getting off benefits and doing something with your life as well as helping other people get fit!!! good luck and dont give in!!
sadie
good luck

I agree that the frosted windows give clients privacy and theconfidence to do there lessons. I definitely would want frosted glass if i was going to swing about on a pole in my undergarments
Keran Williams
I think the council should appreciate your customers privacy as there are many women with high standing in the community that use your facilities that will not feel comfortable if there is a possibility of them being seen. Wishing you every success with this petition.
lucy delve
the windows give women the privacy and help them to feel comfortable,
Mr. Gaunt
Indeed
kim crosby
i strongly agree that the privacy and personal safety of all members and staff would be at threat if the film was removed, the window clearly states that the premises are not used for lap dancing purposes, and i admire you for not letting this deter your determination to succeed,i would be more than happy to help back this campaign in any way i can.good luck!!
@walesland
ncc suck
Lyn Priest
Council hasn't got a good enough reason to take away the privacy glass!!
Stacy Bailie
I think the premises are being put to good use. Would the council like to see the shop closed & empty with a load of graffiti over it? Charlene is doing a brilliant job there - keep it up & Good luck xxxx
Bethan
The privacy film should definetely stay !!!
rose maddock
ladies deserve their privacy...
Phil B
Petty minded council.
Christopher R
The grounds of the objection are a farce to say the least, is the technical college refurbishment not the biggest eye sore on the same frontage to the road as the Vanity Pole gym, if not the whole of Newport? It looks far better than the food places that are constantly in limbo, and also does point out on both windows that the classes are for fun and fitness, so how does it in any way imply services of a sexual nature? IT DOESN'T!!! Businesses have enough to contend with in today's economic climate without silly objections like this, Good Luck
Leanne Johnson
I am thinking about starting lessons here but would definetely be put off by all and sundry being able to able to glare through the windows as they please! Good luck with campaign. :)
Rachel Edmunds
Maybe the council people should have a go on the poles while being watched by every person who passes the gym, i think they would soon change their minds. The glass looks great and also gives privacy, the council are being ridiculous.
Roger Henthorn
I have passed this gym on the bus on many occasions. I think the frontage is very tastefully decorated and does not offend or detract in any way the buildings appearance. In fact it blends in to be hardly noticable. What stands out in Clarance Place are all the fast food places.
jessica
this is really pathtic of the council i hope u get alot more signatures good luck
sarah
Hi All Just read article in Argus. I am in support of your campaign. It would be ridiculous of the council to think that you could run your business without some privacy for your paying clients. It, for me, would be a decision wether or not to join a class if a. Joining a class with privacy b. Not joining with no privacy. Good luck sarah Natale
Miss Certowicz
Good Luck with the petition, I hope the council see sense.
Ruth Adams
This is Pathetic and shows what type of country we have become.
Gemma Preece
Fingers crossed, the world sees sense!!!
Matt Griffin
Ridiculous beaurocracy - only the council could have an issue with this!
Matt Griffin
Ridiculous beaurocracy - only the council could have an issue with this!
shaunna
who would want people watching them, you would have alot of people stood there staringg
Craig Howick
Who would go to the gym if it was open to all to watch, this is a form of fitness training that demands respect for the client and how do u expect vanity pole to meet that if the casting eye could watch through the window
becki
the film gives me confidence knowing that i am having a womens only class, i dont want other people like men and children seeing me in shorts and a small top
laura
the film is a good way of advertising and maintaining privicy, this gym is situated on a very busy road and often has yobs and junkies hanging about who dont need to be looking in!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nicole Pichette
Keep the privacy film!
beth
i believe that the film should stay.
Mr Bailie
would the council rathe see the shop unused and sitting empty????
gemma
The members of this gym deserve the right to have privacy
paula tennant
the gym i go to has film on the windows and the door is shut at all times to respect the members privacy ,i do not see what the problem is with this ??? there will be far more complaints from people if it is removed ! it is also dangerous to drivers passing as they will be more interested in whats going on in there !! newport council should be encouraging new buisnesses especially ones that will promote health and fitness !!!!
Naomi
Keep the privacy filmm!! xx
vikki tonks
i think its awful they wana take the privacey glass away. i wouldnt even think of goin to a pole dancin class if the whole of the outside world could see me. i hope lots of people sign the petition x
Claire Morris
The only thing that will be achieved from removing the privacy film is loss of customers. Women come here to improve their fitness and their confidence which they will not continue to do if they have the general population gawping in at every opportunity. Please do not allow this to happen.
Kendall Richards
I think it is disgusting to have to remove this as I would feel to uncomfortable to learn to pole dancing with prying eyes. DONT LET THIS HAPPEN!!!
jinny purnell
keep the privacy film in place it's for the privavcy of the girls that go there to work out!!!
Chelsee
DONT take them down !!! who would want to come to vanity pole, whilst EVERYONE can see ??? Newport is full of alcoholic's & Pedophiles , im sure the girls wouldnt feel comftable with aloud of people staring in !!!!! if the council were more reasonable theyd agree for them to be there, as it would cause trouble with people hanging about to watch! elderley people would complain. its perfetic Good Luck Girls !!!!
Danielle Lewis
Keep the film! :O :O :O :O nicest lookin sho along the front it is anyways dnt change it! :O

Keep The Film On ! Everyone Needs Privacy...How would the council feel if you put them in a see through glass house so everyone can see what there doing 24/7 ! Coz i no they bounce round on there wii fits n all...dont wanna people watching tha do u ! Keep it up girls !!xxxxxxxxx
amena ali
Please allow people to do what they want in they're own privacy. No one is hurting anyone here, just keeping fit and entertaining themselves, why discourage this by not allowing privacy! We are monitored in everything we do...leave these people alone. Wouldyou rather everyone stayed at home at macdonalds and watched eastenders??? Obesity is a growing problem, vanity pole is doing something to combat this...let them keep their privacy...PLEASE!!!
chantelle
keep it open so ladies can have some privacy whilst keeping fit n having fun

I wouldnt feel comfortable havin a lesson if the signs where removed from the windows. And would stop attendin classes as i would feel exposed to members of the public.
DREW
HOW CAN THEY CHARGE YOU FOR THE PLANNING FORM THEN KNOCK YOU BACK .?????????? EVERYONE KNOWS IT IS A POLE FITNESS CENTER AND YES THERE IS A HOSTEL A COUPLE OF DOORS UP AND DEFONATLEY A LOT OF OUTOF TOWNERS AND ALCOHOLICS FROM THE HOSTEL HANGING AROUND MAKING THE EREA LOOK UNTIDDY, I UNDERSTAND THE PEOPL IN THE HOSTEL ARE RECENTLY BEEN RELEASED FROM PRISON , AND THIS IS THE REASON FOR THE GIRLS OF GWENT AND SURROUNINGS NEED THERE PRIVACY TO TRAIN IN PRIVATE SURLEY YOU CAN SEE THAT, THIS IS A BUSINESS THAT BRINGS PEOPLE TO NEWPORT IT IS A ATRACTION TO GIRLS TO GAIN CONFIDENCE THE SAME SORT OF ATRACTION THAT PEOPLE COME TO NEWPORT TO SEE EITHER THE CASSTLE OR THE WAVE OR THE SNOOKER CENTER OPPISITE , this is almost 2010 this is a age of new things for a new age you should emrace this instead of shutting people down.
gareth elliott
well as for appearance i think its the best looking sgop along the front very classy , there is a hostel 4 doors up with drug abbusers and alcoholics that hang round all day drinking and theiving from lots of strugling business , half the alcoholics that hang around and also live in the hostel arent even from newport and this is what you as a council spend our council tax money on housing these people and shutting bussiness down if you want to clean something up it should be the aloholics hanging roung loitering out side our shops , AND YOU WONDER WHY THERE IS PRIVACY GLASS ? IV ALLWAYS BEEN TOLD TO LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTUER INSTEAD OF THE SMALL ONE!
rob clarke
good luck with everything...business is business
Ella Jeffery
I hope the council take notice and see sense...This place has not only given me a hobby but most importantly has given me confidence and helped me to make new friends.
Matthew Jeffery
The Council should be supporting this business not shutting it down!
toby davies
takes the piss dont it i think gotta av privacy in a place like that or ud av a bigger audience than the x factor leave it how it is nothing wrong wiv it
Nichola Roberts
everyone is allowed privacy!!!
Hanna Ferguson
The film is on the windows for the privacy of the women attending the fitness classes, it is not to infer anything or hide anything but the modesty of the ladies who go there, and im sure it prevents harrassment of those who attend the classes from dirty old men who would otherwise be leering at the sessions if it were not there.
s.muir
The Film is Our Privacy when using the gym from perverts and unwanted people looking throught the windows. There is Nothing Wrong with the signs/film, they are not Explict, Not Offensive. THE COUNCIL SHOULD GO AROUND OTHER SHOPS SPECIALLY THE ONES NEAR VANTYPOLE, THE OTHERS ARE WHAT MAKES NEWPORT LOOK UGLY, NOT VANIYPOLE.
siobon
the film provides privacy. without the film, i wouldnt want to go
Gayle Higgs
I feel that if the covers were to be taken down from the windows vanity pole's business would suffer! i was interested in joining the classes as a new and fun way of keepin fit, rather than aerobics or goin to the gym. But now the threat of the window covers being taken down i would not want to join! Any other gym or fitness class is in rooms where no one other than the people in the same room can see, the idea of gettin fit is to build on self confidence, and to have people staring in the window would put me off completely! not only that im sure it would cause some traffic and accident problems from people driving past and staring in, it is an unusual but erotic way of keepin fit and mainly men will be curious and want to watch women pole dancing, not good when driving past and as i stated will no doubt cause accidents!!!! I hope this petition helps as a would really like to start pole fitness there....
vicky hargreaves
hope everything goes ok for u hun,, your doin a great job, keep it up. xxx
seanna oliver
its there for privacy, if the covering wasnt there i would be reluctant to go, i wouldnt want filthy pervs learing in whilst im trying to practise fitness
Charlie
Why should women be put on display? What reasons do they have? I can't think of a single viable reason myself. I've been to vanity pole, and I loved how private it was and how comfortable I felt around everyone. If I had felt exposed I think I would've left right away. Seems like they just want to drive this business out of town, that or they are perverted voyeurs. Imagine the number of boys and men who would use this as a way of intimidating, potentially insulting and mostly watching women. The councils proposal is a and rediculous one, no one with any intelligence would agree to it.
Jenna davies
All the problems wrong with Newport and this is what the council are spending my council tax money on???? Seriously? Just because they are a bunch of narrow minded, old fashioned fuddy tuddys doesn't mean the rest of us disapprove. I think the design is very tasteful and like mentioned above protects the privacy of those participating in the classes. Maybe the council should take a look around Newport and see what other small local business they would like to destroy? I can't believe they are actually going to have meetings over this!! Hilter would be proud... FASCISTS!!
budgie
I have heard only good things about this place and i think everyone in newport should get behined a problem like this ,all the council seem to want to do is run this place down, good luck.
Sadie
Everyone needs their privicy not everyone is confident or likes to be on display.good luck!
michelle harry-young
def show my support...privacy is a right not a privilege.....xx
kat nicol
it should be left how it is.
lisa henry
SHOCKING!!!! none of the councils business
Felicity Combs
You should have the freedom and the CHOICE to exercise privately and to protect the members exercising inside the business.
Susannah Rigby
Please let us keep our privacy in our lessons. Enough men stare at us just entering the building, it would be horrendous if they could see in.
Gareth Shellard
Typical attitude weve come to expect off our council...Good Luck
traceyann davis
PRIVACY FOR MEMBERS
Pixie
Hope you can keep the glass up!
Abigail
I don't see how they can do this. We're all entitled to privacy. Good Luck!
Diana
i would be interested in having a go but not if they removed privacy film!!!!
Dawn
everyone is entitled to privacy
smokey
keep the film up and let da girls do their thing
claire walters
goodluck hope the film stays up as i was thinking of becoming a member n wouldnt want anyone to be looking at me being a bigger lady :) all the best
emily twissell
I do not want passers by to be looking in or watching whilst lessons go on because as a beginner its hard enough learning the moves and gaining confidence without being a public spectacle. It is a busy road at all times of the day.
Alexa Osowski
Me and a few friends have just started lessons and it's great to be able to learn in private without passers by looking in!
Gwen Jones
why would it need to be removed, it looks fine the way it is. I am an elderly lady and take the bus past Vanity regularly and find it in no way offensive
Cara Worgan
What is the problem here? The covering doesn't look bad, it looks professional and gives the impression of a professional business, it provides privacy to the ladies training inside. Vanity Pole is not a Pole Dancing club it is a health club, that needs privacy to get ladies throught the door in the first place.
Liza Brough
as a middle aged lady i would never dream of attending a pole fitness session if i knew everyone cound see me, my confidence is slowly coming back, privacy is the key here and is the difference between fit and unfit, happy or sad, confident or unconfdent. No Removal of Covering!
Charlene McConnell
Before I started pole dancing lessons my confidence and self-esteem was low, now my confidence and self-esteem is getting better. This is because the lessons are fun and my pole dancing teacher encourages me to participate with the beginner moves, due to having dyslexia my confidence, concentration and coordination is effected this has made it difficult for me to grasp some of the beginner moves. However my pole dancing teacher has patience and willingness to show me a beginner move over and over again until I have grasped the move, with her help and my own self-belief eventually my progression with the beginner moves will improve and progress to the next level. I don’t think the film should be taken down, with out the privacy of the film individuals of the public will how to view members and myself learning how to do pole fitness, this might prevent other members wanting to start lessons and will effect my confidence when learning in the lesson, please can the film not be taken down as it provides privacy .
Sophie Brough
i recently started fitness trining and was interested in the training that is provided at Vanity Pole Fitness but if the privacy of the gym was compromised by removing the vinyl i would not use it, when confidence is low, the last thing you need is every passer by looking at you.
linda stevens
this is a bad idea.privicy of the gym is why so many woman use it and it would deffinatly affect the buisness if removed
Tiffany Larcombe
Havn't the council got anything else to do they want to clean up newport for a start not being petty and tryin to close down little business. If they take this film down then i dont think that vanity pole would have much privacy and much money coming in how would the council people like living in a green house eh with everyone watching every move you make eh? the film doesnt need to come down as its not hurting anyone !!!!!!!
Tiffany Larcombe

toni meredith
why should it be closed its just like a gym keeps u fit ...
Siobhan Rooke
Removing the privacy film to Vanity Fair would simply be ridiculous! Current and future members would definately be less likely to use the gym! Newport City Council should be helping local businesses, not trying to make business difficult - especially in the current economic climate! Good Luck Charlene!
mandy
keep open
Leah Jones
i dont wont perverts waching me so yesssssss keep the film keep our privecy
claire redman
hi there, would just like to say that i think the film should be left on the windows as without it us girls wouldnt have privacy while learning to pole dance.everyone deserves their privacy.thank you
claire jones
hiya i had a few lessons from you with rachel barton, i dont know if you remember me but i had to stop as i wasnt well. i am not the smallest of people and if you didnt have the privacy film on your windows i wouldnt of felt comfortable doing it and having people watching me, so i agree that you should keep the film, and i am looking forward to coming back in the near future xxxx
Jennifer
Are there not more pressing issues in Newport that need to be taken care of, for example the fifteen piles of dog mess that I avoided with my children last week as I walked them to school! Women have the right to exercise in private. pole dancing is a physically demanding sport. moreover despite the popular belief that women are rubbing themselves up and down a pole, they are working hard to improve their fitness and boost their confidence. This new business has survived the current financial climate, and Vanity Pole would lose the majority of its customers if the privacy element is lost. In a run down area of the city a dance studio and gym is surely a positive thing, not just for the area but for the community who benefits from it. I can not begin to see how any of this is beneficial to anyone!
sheila
leave it alone
kim tutton
let these ppl hav privacy they deserve 2b treated like ppl not a show for all them wierdos out there safety shld be paramount no1 knows who cld b watchin them
lucy waring
keep shop open
colin beale
I think the windows should stay as they are
katie yhnell
how can women be expected to exercise knowing that everyone can just stop and look at them i think that removing the privacy film is outrageous.
nicola mcguire
no way should this privacy be removed .. i wouldnt want ppl staring at me and also it gives perverts/ murderers and stalkers and rapists opportunities
martin jones
how can the council expect women to build confidence in themselves when people can just blatantly look at them my partner is self conscious when attending the gym and wants to start sessions at vanity pole and i wouldn't like it if anyone walking by can just stop and stare not only is it wrong to remove the privacy film i think its perverse.
suzanna mcnulty
privacey is needed for members peace of mind and confidence.....
siana
i really can't figure out y the council wanna take down the signs fron yr windows!!! just wierd! do they want u to just give up on making a living and say i give in a cease trading????? i really dont think they have got a leg to stand on, just some lil dick who works in the offices wanting to get an eyefull ov u georgeous girlies!!!! lol .....
alison killoran
Why invade peoples privacy? if they choose to dance/train discreetly then thats how it should be!!..... I can imagine what NCC will be saying if this film gotta come down! respect peoples wishes and keep the privacy film up thas what i say!! all the best girls.
Karl Lynch
I think it would be very disturbing & uncomfortable for the users of Vanity Pole Dance if the privacy film were to be removed from the windows. I believe it would cause some distraction & chaos from outside for motorists & pedestrians going past. It needs to stay to keep everybody happy! K. Lynch
Georgia
Why should they be forced to remove the privacy film? If they were, would they be allowed to put up curtains instead? Who wants people leering at them when they're working out at the gym? Pole dancing or no pole dancing, a gym is not a place for passers by to perve!
Kelly Sorensen
Please keep the privacy, everyone keeps on at us about keeping fit and pole dancing certainly does that, I have been pole dancing for the last year and I wouldn't want to be watched by passers by - We are in the 20th century give us a break!
robin mckim
been pole dancing for just over 6 months now. Its a great workout and should not be be hiding from the world.
Roxy
Why would they want you to take the film down? Idiots!
Diane R
Students should be allowed to learn in a private, supportive environment.
Catriona Kenny
Privacy is a basic human right isnt it???
Danielle Bree
There is no need to shut this place down. Its one of the best places for us women to go to an keep us fit an healthy. Its so much fun. it would be deverstaing to see it close down.
PAULINE BRIDGES
It is absolutly ridiculous making such a fuss over windows i thought the council had more important things to deal with and why shouldn't the customers have some privacy.
Hannah Sarson
I'm not resident in Newport but plan to have lessons here when visiting the in-laws!
Hannah Grist
KEEP PRIVACY FILM.
vicky shephard
i have been thinking of starting pole fitness at vanity in newport as im getting married nxt yr and think it would b a nice present to my future husban, there is NO WAY i would feel comfortable taking these lessons in plain view if the public it is an invasion of my privacy and would no longer be a suprise for my fiancee.
Simone Hazell
It is ridiculous that new businesses are being jeopardised through pettiness in the current economic climate.
Carley Williams
Please keep the privacy glass in place.
Gareth Coles
Please keep the privacy glass in place for privacy so all class members can be taught without having any distractions.
Jo-Anne Vickery
I am against the removal of the privacy glass, please keep it in place as it needs to be there so the class members can learn to pole dance in privacy without having any distractions to put them off.
Nikki Malpas
I totally agree with this petition and would only consider joining vanity pole if the privacy film was in place.
Sarah Holly
Hiya, I'm sorry to hear they want to take the vynyl down. Unfortunately council committees can sometimes misunderstand what our pole concepts and classes are about! They probably want to see what goes on in the venue! What these people don't realize is that it's very important to the people we teach that they have privacy so they can feel comfortable learning to dance, if they don't have privacy they can feel silly and in-turn won't learn properly! I am also teaching in Cardiff and elsewhere and understand the frustration of trying to open the minds of people who don't understand pole dance. They are seemingly in denial and believe pole dance is a form of sleeze associated with 'other' sex related businesses! In some cases yes but for us instructors they are wrong and should realize that what we teach is for everyday people for fun and fitness. Pole dance is increasingly becoming a form of dance & sport and I support all who are teaching it as an artform! I will share this petition with people I know and hope it works for you. Best of luck and Kindest Regards (your fellow poler) Sminxie ;) x
Sarah Holly
Hi I hope me signing the petition helps you. Unfortunately council committees can sometimes misunderstand what our pole concepts and classes are about! I am also teaching in Cardiff and elsewhere and understand the frustration of trying to open minds when they are so closed! I will share this petition with people I know and hope it works for you. Best of luck and Kindest Regards (your fellow poler) Sminxie ;) x
steve
this is tupid, the council have to much say and should stick there noses else were. shouldt they be more concerned with crime rather than a local sucessful buisness improving the health and fitness of the public.
rachel witts
It takes alot of guts for some women who are not confident to go to a gym,why make it all the more harder???? Would the members of newport city council liked to be watched???
amy bodman
keep it open
shelly
I think the privacy film should stay, i certainly wouldnt like people off the street staring through the windows.
kerry pie
With u all the way girl x
Jason Collins
they should be left to train in peace with out people staring in.
gareth beechey

cherelle willioams
its pathetic how petty people can be if u wana see inside go to the lessons simple as that
zoe witheres
leave them up the girls need there privavy thanx
sheena bowyer
wht should any body and everybody passing have the right to look through the windows of vanity pole there are enough perverts out there and it will cause more problems for the police when they are hoggling at the windows ...
KELLY ATHAY
i dont agree with the privacy being taken away from anyone who wants to build their confidence.
khadra ally
whats wrong with the council i think vanity pole is a great place, its not a place to take your clothes off, by the looks of it the council got nothing to do!
martyn raymond
give the women their privacy to train in peace!!
kirsty raymond
women have the right to privacy while exercising and taking pole classes..taking this privacy away will discourage women to take part!!
Ekaterina Vshivkova
In my opinion privacy is really important, therefore, I would object for the film to be removed.
shiree hanbury

Becky Whittington
THE SHOP NEEDS THE SIGNS ON THE WINDOW FOR PRIVACY BECause itt will be stupid if there are girls in the gym and people stood outside watching the signs should stayup there not hurting nothing
ashanti webbe
its disgusting that newport council would even consider that u have to remove the film. They will have alot more headache from the public about what ppl r seeing if they take it down. Even knw there is nothing wrong with pole dancing not everyone shares the same view so its best for the council to just leave vanity pole the way it is. I mean uve been open a year what is the problem keepin doing ya thing hun and dnt let them mess about with your biz.
tania mckue
please keep the privacy signs up
jo leung
Vanity Pole, but has absolutely nothing in the window that is derogative or demeaning
Gareth Watkins
Privacy!
lisa harding
please could vanity pole keep there privacy xxxx
helen hamilton
i'd like the windows to stay how they are for privacy reasons. it will put me off if i know strangers on the street can look in.
emma davies
i feel that the privacy of the film is not acceptable, as most women would feel very uncomftable
amy tutton
i think it should stay open as its a fun way to stay fit and healthy.
m. fillmore
how about they take all privacy away from thier meeti gs so the public see them at thier most exposed state. A ridiculous idea to remove others privacy whilst they exercise!!!!
gavin pod
keep this leisure and fitness facility its a must ,it brings attraction to the area and many peoples lives are brought too happiness because of Vanity Pole . thankyou
elle
.
Rebecca Evans
I go to vanity pole to improve my fitness in a fun and interesting way. The film on the windows provides the privacy to me and other memebers that allows the fitness excerises to be fun and effective, as theres no worry of other people watching.
Angharad Williams
Without the privacy film, I wouldnt have started pole dancing lessons
miss jones
they need there privacy
Studioveena
It's important for new clients to feel comfortable!!
alissia brook

claire

julie maggs
perhaps someone from the council needs to come alond in the evening to see what its all about!!!!
Karen Roden
The glass should stay the way it is for privacy, how are you supposed to train if people keep staring in!
Ginine Simmonds
?
Kate Milne
the whole idea as said above is for privacy. why would you want some stranger oggling you and other members through the glass. This is why the privacy film needs to be in place.
amanda
people should be given the right to privacy
Charmaine Mansfield
Totally agree the film should not be removed why should it have to me myself would not come to vanity pole if this was to happen as i wouldnt like the thought of being watched by any one. the thing is to you will have all the childish lads then looking through the window putting every one of and in some cases making some woman's confidence even lower i think the film should stay in place and very easily signed this petition hope all goes well and you win the fight to keep it up in place xxxxx good luck xxxxx
emily periam
im signing!
Lorna Tucker
Please keep privacy film.
becky cogdell
people using the pole fitness gym should be entitled to privacy!
sarah brazier
I think they are being really unreasonable. I was thinking of booking myself in soon, but I would not be comfortable without the gym front with the privicy film in place. What they are proposing is really going to put people off which is a massive shame. So much for the government wanting to get people into exercising more and helping business' to florish! I'm half tempted to write a letter of complaint to the council as well!
gareth elliott
i support my wife in what she does in teaching and life has been made verry hard lately with all the demands of the council and we have complied with what ever is asked and done our best give the girl a break shes helped so many people and with out this business she will be like many people are in this country unemployed , PLEASE give consenent
charlene elliott
I am a married woman with three children i have started this business to gain girls and women self cofidece and the business completly relies on privacy for the clients here at vanitypole to train in privacy. the windows are also frosted to stop distractions to people driving along the main road as it is very bussy with sets off lights out side the shop. THIS IS A FITNESS GYM FOR POLE FITNESS AND NOT A LAP DANCING CLUB IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM, It was a struggle to come of the social and make somthing postive for my self and if the viynal an the windows come down it will be the end of my business please give pomition for the shop to stay as it is many thanks charlene
louise morgan
typical council what harm is it doing??? grrrr. hope all goes well x
kirsty
.
kelly palmer
the thought that the privacy of this fitness centre seems ridiculous to me. considering where it is especially there would be far too much passing traffic (both foot traffic and vehicles) to even consider going there for a work out without it. we should be helping new businesses in newport, not trying to find ways for them to fail.
Cressida Fuller
privacy is required for many to get the confidence to learn to dance
Wendy Purnell
the glass should remain the way it is, it gives members privacy when training. Many ladies would not train if they knew they could be seen.
Emma Vaughan
How stupid this is. Does the council not realise what you do? By having the secret screening up you are protecting patrons of vanity pole. Without that you could end up closing down and that would be another business in an area that is already struggling business-wise. I know i'm not local but i am often down in that area and i think it's a shame that there are already so many disused premises. Keep the screening up, keep vanity pole open!!!
Laura gurney

Natalee Dymond
People come here to get confidence, how are they going to gain confidence with half of newport watching them?
Karen
Everybody is entitled to privacy!
Elizabeth Bartholomew
I would never have started the classes if there was no privacy, we have to wear quite revealing clothing to enable us to perform many of the more complex moves, this is currently a place women can go to build their confidence, this would be destroyed on removal of the covering.
Krysha Webb
i fink the privacy film shud stay i fink this is a great petition hope we win n get 2 save it :)
Jay Neal
The opaque nature of the glass gives members and first time users of the gym a chance to train in privacy, if the covering was removed many of the less confident ladies would never attempt to learn.
